A cheddar made in Groton just won big on the global stage—without its maker even knowing it was in the running, according to The Ithaca Voice.
Old Chatham Creamery’s Stockinghall Cheddar, crafted by cheesemaker Jeremiah Timmins, took home top honors for best American and best cheddar at the World Cheese Awards in Switzerland—tying for fifth-best cheese in the world. The winning batch had quirky production issues, making the surprise win even sweeter.
Timmins, stunned by the result, says he’s just getting started and hopes to one day claim the top global spot.
