After years of delays, Ithaca’s Common Council passed new zoning rules for the Southside neighborhood in an 8–1 vote, according to The Ithaca Voice.
The form-based code encourages more walkable, residential development—removing parking minimums and reducing lot size requirements. It also adds design rules, like pitched roofs in low-density areas. Supporters say it’s a crucial first step toward affordability and housing flexibility.
Some, like Alderperson Patrick Kuehl, argued the changes didn’t go far enough, but most praised it as long overdue progress.
