A Weedsport man is facing multiple charges — including felony DWI and assault — after allegedly striking a Cayuga County deputy during a traffic stop in the Town of Fleming late Saturday night.
According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, deputies arrested 21-year-old Hector F. Ramos-Castillo just before midnight on November 15. The arrest followed a complaint about a vehicle driving erratically on Route 34. A deputy spotted the vehicle around 11:35 p.m. and observed it failing to signal and stay in its lane.
When the deputy pulled the vehicle over, Ramos-Castillo, who was the sole occupant, showed signs of intoxication. He refused to get out when ordered. As the deputy attempted to remove him from the vehicle, Ramos-Castillo allegedly struck the deputy in the head with his fist.
Two New York State Troopers arrived to assist, and the deputy was able to take Ramos-Castillo into custody. Both men were evaluated by EMS but did not require further medical attention.
Ramos-Castillo is charged with felony driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction, felony aggravated unlicensed operation related to alcohol, use of a vehicle without a court-ordered interlock device, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, harassment in the second degree, and several traffic violations.
He was arraigned at the county’s Centralized Arraignment court and released with a court appearance scheduled for November 25 at 5 p.m. in Fleming Town Court.
