Steuben County budget plan keeps taxes stable

Steuben County’s 2026 budget proposal would raise property taxes by just under 2%, but officials say it still falls within New York’s cap, according to Spectrum News.

County Manager Jack Wheeler said the plan protects core services like public safety and infrastructure while absorbing rising state and federal mandates. The average annual tax levy increase over the past five years is 1.56%—well below inflation, the county claims.

A public hearing is set for Nov. 24 at 11:30 a.m. in Steuben County.
