Ontario County DA-elect MacBride taps top trial attorney James Nobles for key role

Incoming Ontario County District Attorney Jason MacBride has announced that veteran trial attorney James Nobles will join the DA’s office in 2026, bringing decades of experience from both sides of the courtroom.

Nobles, who began his legal career as a Monroe County Assistant District Attorney, later built a prominent reputation in private practice as one of Western New York’s top criminal defense lawyers. He is known for his courtroom skill, particularly in complex, high-stakes cases.

“James Nobles is a highly experienced trial attorney with an impeccable record of success,” said MacBride. “His experience and integrity will serve the people of Ontario County exceptionally well.”

Born and raised in Conesus, Nobles earned his business degree from Nazareth College, then graduated cum laude from New York Law School. He later earned an LL.M. in Criminal Law from the University at Buffalo.

During his time as an ADA, Nobles handled a wide range of cases — including domestic violence, assault, burglary, drug possession, and DWI — and never lost a jury trial. In private practice, he handled 26 murder trials and hundreds of additional cases involving fraud, conspiracy, assault, and major drug charges.

His ability to see cases from both the prosecution and defense perspective aligns with MacBride’s platform of ensuring fairness, accountability, and integrity in prosecution.

Beyond the courtroom, Nobles has held leadership roles with several community organizations, including Rehema Home US Fundraising Inc., Flower City Work Camp, and the Monroe County Water Authority.

His appointment is set to take effect as MacBride officially takes office in 2026.
