Corning Social Security office reopens for in-person services after renovations

The Social Security office in Corning has officially reopened for in-person services following months of renovations. The office, located at 200 Nasser Civic Center Plaza, resumed walk-in and appointment-based operations on Thursday, November 13.

The location had been closed since April 2025 for facility updates. With the reopening, residents once again have direct access to Social Security staff for a wide range of services, including retirement and disability claims, Medicare enrollment, and benefit verification.

The office is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are now available for all service types, and officials are encouraging customers to schedule ahead to avoid long wait times. Appointments can be made online at www.ssa.gov/manage-benefits/make-an-appointment or by calling the Corning office at 1-866-591-3665.

While walk-ins are still accepted, Social Security staff are giving special consideration to vulnerable individuals, including people with disabilities and others requiring immediate support.

Online options still available

Many Social Security services can still be accessed online at www.ssa.gov. Through the mySocialSecurity portal, users can:

  • Start or change direct deposit
  • Request replacement forms like the SSA-1099
  • Download benefit verification letters
  • View earnings records and future benefit estimates

Applying for benefits or a new Social Security card?

People can also apply for retirement, disability, or Medicare benefits through www.ssa.gov/onlineservices. For those needing a Social Security number or card, the process can be started online at www.ssa.gov/number-card, which may reduce or eliminate the need for an in-person visit.

The national Social Security helpline is 1-800-772-1213, with a call-back option available. For TTY users, the number is 1-800-325-0778.
