Cayuga budget plan hikes taxes, cuts jobs

Facing an $11.2 million shortfall, Cayuga County leaders are proposing steep changes to balance the 2026 budget, according to The Citizen.

The $198.4 million plan unveiled Monday by Legislature Chair Jonathan Anna includes a 12.5% property tax increase and nearly 30 county job cuts. The announcement came during a public presentation at the Ward W. O’Hara Museum in Owasco.

Lawmakers will now begin reviewing the proposal before final approval, with more details on department-level impacts expected in the coming weeks.
