An inmate at the Seneca County Jail is facing a felony charge after allegedly assaulting a corrections officer on Thursday afternoon.
Investigators arrested Jason Bounds on Friday and charged him with second-degree assault, a Class D felony. The incident happened around 4 p.m. on October 30, when Bounds is accused of intentionally attacking the officer and causing injuries to the face, neck, and eye.
The officer was taken to Geneva Hospital for treatment and later released. Officials say the officer is expected to fully recover.
Bounds was scheduled to be arraigned at the county’s Centralized Arraignment Program later Friday evening.
Sheriff Timothy Thompson said the department takes these incidents seriously.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for assaults on our staff and will always hold those accountable who engage in this type of behavior,” he said.
