A new Pew Research Center analysis details how Americans spend their time each day, highlighting differences by age and gender.
The study uses data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Time Use Survey to track daily activities across 12 categories.
Researchers found Americans spend an average of 1 hour and 57 minutes per day on housework.
Women spend more time on housework than men, averaging 2 hours and 19 minutes daily compared to 1 hour and 34 minutes for men.
The study also found variations in sleep patterns across age groups. Adults in their 20s reported the most sleep, with men averaging 9 hours and 18 minutes and women 9 hours and 32 minutes.
Sleep time generally declines through middle age before increasing again among older adults.
The analysis examined activities including working, caregiving, exercising, socializing and watching television to understand how daily routines shift over the life course.
