Mets hire Troy Snitker as hitting coach

The New York Mets are hiring Troy Snitker as their new hitting coach, according to SNY’s Andy Martino.

Snitker, 36, is the son of former Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker and spent nearly a decade in the Houston Astros organization. He joined Houston in 2016 and became the club’s major league hitting coach in 2019, helping guide one of baseball’s top offenses before being dismissed following the 2025 season.

Snitker was reportedly a leading candidate for the Mets’ vacancy as the team overhauls its coaching staff under manager Carlos Mendoza. The club previously announced that hitting coaches Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes would not return for 2026, with Jeff Albert temporarily overseeing the major league hitting program.

Snitker will join a restructured staff that includes new bench coach Kai Correa. Holdovers Antoan Richardson (first base coach), Danny Barnes (strategy coach), and Rafael Fernandez (coaching assistant) are expected to remain.

The Mets’ offseason coaching shakeup also saw pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, bench coach John Gibbons, third base/infield coach Mike Sarbaugh, and catching instructor Glenn Sherlock, who retired, all depart. Most recently, assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel left to take the same position with the New York Yankees.
