A man riding a bike through downtown Ithaca was arrested early Friday morning after police spotted what looked like a handgun tucked into his hoodie.
Ithaca Police say the stop happened around 3:40 a.m. on October 25 in the 100 block of West Clinton Street. Officers pulled the cyclist over for traffic violations and noticed the weapon in the front pouch of his sweatshirt.
The man, 35-year-old Phillip M. Lewis of Ithaca, was taken into custody without incident. The weapon turned out to be an imitation handgun, but Lewis was still charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree — a Class D felony.
He was arraigned by Judge Peacock in Ithaca City Court and taken to the Tompkins County Jail.
