State Police are investigating after a property owner discovered human remains in a wooded area off Champlin Road in the town of Sodus.
The remains were found on October 15 and reported to 911. Troopers from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Forensic Identification Unit responded to the scene and began a search of the area.
Over the following days, investigators uncovered additional bones with help from the State Police Canine Unit and the Wayne County Coroner. A forensic anthropologist conducted a preliminary exam and confirmed the remains are believed to be human.
The bones have been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further analysis and identification.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Trooper Lynnea Crane at the Troop E office in Canandaigua.
