Schuyler County business park earns rare national site certification

A long-vacant property in Schuyler County just got a golden ticket for growth — and it’s turning heads across the country.

FLX Gateway announced Friday that the Schuyler County Business Park has earned a Gold designation from REDI Sites, a nationally recognized program that signals a site is ready for major investment. It’s only the fourth Gold site in the entire U.S., and the first in New York.

What it means for the county

The 51-acre site, located along State Route 414, has sat mostly empty since the 1990s. But that’s about to change. The REDI Gold certification validates the property as “shovel-ready” and ideal for industrial or office development — a major selling point for companies looking to expand quickly.

“This recognition enhances our ability to market Schuyler County and the broader region to businesses seeking investment-ready locations,” said Jon Beckman, board chairman of FLX Gateway, also known as SCOPED.

The designation builds on the momentum of a premium beverage facility already operating at the park with two tenants. Local officials say the site is now positioned to attract more employers and spark job creation.

National attention, local benefits

The REDI Sites program is run by the Site Selectors Guild, a group that helps companies scout and select development sites. Their rigorous standards focus on utility access, infrastructure, logistics, and development readiness.

“Investors today don’t have time for potential — they invest in certainty,” FLX Gateway said in a statement. “We aren’t just open for business — we’re ready now.”

Judy McKinney Cherry, Executive Director of FLX Gateway, credited the Larson Design Group for helping navigate the certification process.

“There are only four Gold sites in the entire country, and the first one in New York is right here,” she said. “That speaks volumes about our team’s vision and our community’s readiness to make Schuyler County a destination for strong investment, quality jobs, and sustainable industries.”
