Bath police arrested a man after a vehicle pursuit early March 13 that ended in a cornfield in the Town of Bath.
Police identified the driver as Matthew W. Sill, 30, of Otego.
Officers reported they observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation around 12:35 a.m. near West Washington Street and West Morris Street. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens and led police on a high-speed pursuit.
The vehicle left the village and entered the Town of Bath before driving into a cornfield, police said.
Officers said the vehicle stopped in the field and the driver fled on foot before being quickly apprehended.
A passenger in the vehicle was interviewed and released at the scene.
Sill was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, unlawful fleeing a motor vehicle, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and reckless driving.
Police also issued 13 additional Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Authorities transported Sill to the Steuben County Jail for CAP arraignment, where he remains held. Police said he is a two-time convicted felon in New York and had two active arrest warrants at the time of the incident.
