Environmental Conservation Police issued 24 tickets during a snowmobile checkpoint operation in the Village of Lake George.
Officers from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation partnered with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office snowmobile unit Feb. 28 during the Lake George Winter Carnival.
Environmental Conservation Officers Krug, Manns, Newell and Nicols conducted recreational vehicle checkpoints during the event, which ran for five weekends from Feb. 7 to March 8.
Officers issued tickets for violations including unregistered all-terrain vehicles, unregistered and uninsured snowmobiles, failure to wear helmets and unlawful exhaust alterations.
Officers also assisted sheriff’s deputies with a snowmobile operator suspected of driving while intoxicated who rolled his snowmobile in front of officers.
All tickets are returnable to the Town of Lake George Court.
In a separate incident March 1, Environmental Conservation Officer McCarthy encountered a bull loose near Route 22 in the Town of Ticonderoga.
The officer blocked traffic with a patrol vehicle and used a boat line as a lasso to help the owner guide the bull back to its pasture.
The officer and owner secured the animal and returned it safely to the field.
