A sailor was safely rescued Sunday after their sailboat capsized on Canandaigua Lake, thanks to the fast response of local emergency crews and a helpful bystander.
Cheshire Fire Department’s Marine 4 unit responded to the scene and coordinated with an Ontario County Sheriff’s deputy, who had already made contact with the caller. Working together, the team quickly located the boater and returned them to shore without injury.
Officials say the sailor was wearing a personal flotation device at the time, which likely helped prevent the situation from becoming more serious. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities praised the coordinated efforts of everyone involved and reminded the public of the importance of wearing proper safety gear while on the water.
