Police arrested a suspect following a series of incidents in the Village of Bath that included burglary, theft and property damage.
Nathan J. Gonzales, 38, was identified after an investigation into multiple incidents reported between March 25 and March 26.
Officers responded around 7:18 a.m. March 26 to Rico’s Pizza on West Morris Street, where a glass door was found smashed.
Investigators determined Gonzales used a cement block to break into the business and steal items. Authorities said he also attempted to enter multiple locked vehicles nearby and entered an unlocked vehicle in another parking lot.
Police said Gonzales was also identified in a larceny at a Dollar General on State Route 415, where he allegedly stole beer and fled.
Later that day, store employees reported Gonzales had returned, prompting a police response. He was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities said Gonzales was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny and attempted petit larceny.
Officials said he had previously been arrested March 25 by state police in Hornell on unrelated charges and was released before the Bath incidents.
After arraignment March 27, authorities said Gonzales made threatening statements, leading to an additional charge of making a terrorist threat. He is being held at the Steuben County Jail and is eligible for bail.
Police said the incidents highlight challenges tied to bail reform, noting in a statement that the case underscores issues faced by law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
