Oneida High hopes to reopen next school year

After a June flood wrecked Oneida High School’s basement, crews are rebuilding with stronger safeguards to prevent future damage, according to WSYR-TV.

Students are sharing Oneida’s middle school for now under a split schedule. Superintendent Matt Carpenter said classes could return to the high school next year — or sooner if repairs finish early.

New electrical systems are being moved above ground, and storm drains are being rerouted to stop future flooding. The $5 million project is funded through a short-term school district loan. Crews say safety and durability come first before reopening the campus.
