Residents at Trolley Station Apartments in Canandaigua teamed up with first responders last week for an afternoon of games, food, and community spirit.
The Fifth Annual Bean Bags and Barbecue event brought together local law enforcement, firefighters, and mental health professionals for a friendly bean bag toss competition. Each team paired a resident with a first responder after enjoying a courtyard cookout.
Some of the participants included Fire Chief Frank Magnera, Captain Jason Haag, Sheriff Deputies Cameron Bodine and John McCauley, Trooper Jason Carey, Investigator Anthony DiMariano, and Mental Health Association Counselor Wendy Webster. Residents Annette G., Keelyn K., and Thomas Ware also joined the fun.
Senator Pam Helming and Canandaigua Town Supervisor Jared Simpson stopped by to cheer on participants and show their support.
During the event, Senator Helming presented Property Manager Melissa Dymond with a New York State Commendation Award for performing the Heimlich maneuver on a resident in a recent emergency. Her quick action helped save a life.
The event was supported by donations from Wegmans, Canandaigua Quick Print, and Friends of Liz Wiatrowski.
