Cornell’s defense limited No. 18 Harvard to season lows in total yards and points, but early turnovers proved costly as the Big Red fell 34–10 on Friday night at Harvard Stadium. The loss dropped Cornell to 0–4 overall and 0–2 in Ivy League play, while the Crimson improved to 4–0 and 2–0.
Harvard capitalized on a Cornell fumble during the opening drive for an early touchdown and later extended its lead to 14–0 in the second quarter on a short scoring pass from Jaden Craig to Ben Alvarez. Cornell found life after halftime when quarterback Garrett Bass-Sulpizio capped a nine-play, 64-yard drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, pulling within 17–7. Freshman kicker Jonathan Roost, making his debut, hit a 25-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to make it 17–10.
The Crimson responded with 17 unanswered points, including Craig’s 4-yard rushing score and a late 39-yard interception return by Jack Donahoe to seal the win. Bass-Sulpizio finished 18-of-30 passing for 127 yards with 30 rushing yards and a touchdown. Johntu Reed led the receivers with 45 yards, while tight end Ryder Kurtz added 25.
Defensively, Damon Barnes posted 12 tackles and Joey Cheshire added 11. Johnny Williamson grabbed an interception in the second quarter.
Cornell returns home on October 18 to host Bucknell at Schoellkopf Field.
