Local police honored for life-saving actions and major arrest

Several members of the Seneca Falls Police Department and Seneca County Sheriff’s Office were recognized at Tuesday night’s Town Board meeting for their outstanding service, including a lifesaving intervention and the safe recovery of a juvenile victim.

Officer Mestan received a Life Saving Award for his critical response to a medical emergency involving a man with a severe arm laceration. Authorities say his quick action played a key role in saving the victim’s life.

In addition, seven officers were awarded Letters of Commendation for their coordinated efforts in locating and arresting a suspect who fled Onondaga County to a Seneca Falls hotel with a juvenile they had allegedly groomed online.

Those recognized for their work in the high-risk case include:

  • Detective Denny
  • Sergeant Kidd
  • Officer Mix
  • Officer Darling
  • Officer Zettlemoyer
  • Deputy Greco (Seneca County Sheriff’s Office)
  • Lieutenant Strohm (Seneca County Sheriff’s Office)

Town officials praised the teamwork and dedication displayed by all involved.

“Congratulations to all and thank you for your continued commitment to protecting and serving our community,” the department said in a statement.
