Wayne County’s fourth and final ambulance base is nearly complete and set to open next month in Walworth, according to RochesterFirst.com.
The $15 million EMS expansion began after a 2020 study revealed slow emergency response times. The new base joins others in Lyons, Rose, and Sodus as part of a countywide effort to close coverage gaps amid a decline in volunteer services.
Wayne County EMS now has over 60 paid staff — the most ever — and is still hiring. Officials say the new base will help cover the county’s 600 square miles more efficiently.
