Former school board president running for Varick Town Board

Rachelle Bateman, a longtime local leader and former school board president, is running for a seat on the Varick Town Board this November.

She says her campaign is about protecting Varick’s natural resources, improving infrastructure, and making sure residents stay informed and heard when it comes to local government decisions.

Bateman served on the Romulus Central School District Board of Education for 12 years, including terms as both vice president and president. Her experience also includes leading children’s ministries and serving on finance committees at Seneca Community Church.

She and her husband Eric, a high school teacher, have lived in Varick for nine years. Their son serves as a U.S. Army Combat Medic Specialist — a role that Bateman says gives her a firsthand understanding of the sacrifices military families make.

Professionally, Bateman brings over 20 years of experience in financial management and health care accounting. She works for Albany Medical Health System and Finger Lakes Health, specializing in budget planning and data-driven strategy.

Bateman holds a master’s degree in health services administration from SUNY Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Mansfield University. She’s also a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

The Varick Town Board election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4.
