Canandaigua man arrested after threatening officers

A Canandaigua man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting someone and threatening officers with a metal stanchion during a chaotic scene on South Main Street.

Richard E. Thomas, 24, was arrested around 12:21 p.m. on September 27 after several bystanders reported a disturbance involving an assault.

When officers approached to detain him, police say Thomas shoved one officer, grabbed a stanchion from the median, and raised it above his head as if to strike. He was subdued and taken into custody.

Thomas was treated for minor injuries before being transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment. He is charged with menacing in the second degree, harassment in the second degree, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.
