Auburn homeless residents say they were paid to fake campaign donations for a state Senate candidate, according to The Citizen.
Multiple individuals claim they received cash or gift cards after signing forms stating they gave $250 to Republican Caleb Slater’s 2024 campaign — money they never actually donated. The alleged scheme helped Slater unlock over $238,000 in public matching funds meant for small-dollar, in-district donors.
Slater denies involvement and blames rogue volunteers. The state’s campaign finance board is investigating and could issue civil or criminal penalties.
