Got old pills? The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office wants to help you get rid of them—safely.
On Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office will team up with the Steuben Prevention Coalition Opioid Committee and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event will be held at the Public Safety Building in Bath.
This free, anonymous program offers people a chance to clean out their medicine cabinets and dispose of expired or unneeded prescriptions. Tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid medications will be accepted. Needles, syringes, and lancets are not allowed at this drop-off, but can be disposed of through hospitals or mail-in programs.
“This is a great way to help keep your home safe from theft and protect your children from unintended use,” said Sheriff Jim Allard. “Opioid safety is everyone’s business.”
Take Back Day is held twice a year across the country. Since it began, more than 9,900 tons of medications have been collected and safely removed from circulation.
Unused medications left in the home can lead to accidental poisoning or misuse. Proper disposal helps prevent these risks—and protects the environment, too.
The event will be held at:
