NY extends COVID shot access as feds stall

Pharmacists across New York will keep giving COVID-19 vaccines under a renewed executive order from Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Signed October 3, the 30-day extension comes as Hochul pushes for federal approval to offer the shots through the Vaccines for Children program — something not currently allowed. She also blasted Washington for what she called anti-science policies.

New York is coordinating with other Northeast states on a regional health strategy focused on vaccines, emergency readiness, and sharing lab resources. A statewide standing order already lets pharmacists administer the vaccine without a prescription.
