A full courtroom gathered Wednesday in Geneseo to celebrate seven individuals who completed a demanding program aimed at turning their lives around.
The Livingston County Treatment Court held its 51st graduation ceremony, marking a milestone for participants who spent up to 18 months focused on recovery, accountability, and personal growth.
Judge Jennifer M. Noto presided over the event, offering words of encouragement to the graduates. “Don’t stop doing all the things you are doing right now to maintain recovery,” she said. “You have each worked so hard… to be here today.”
Treatment Court offers an alternative to incarceration for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Participants receive supervision, undergo drug testing, report regularly to court and probation, and complete community service. Since its start, the program has supported 245 graduates, helping reduce recidivism and easing pressure on the justice system.
One graduate reflected, “Treatment court helped me find myself again and live right… I stand here today happy, healthy, and sober.”
Another shared, “It’s been a long, hard road and it’s far from over, but it’s been life changing.”
The program relies on a coordinated effort across county agencies and community partners, including the courts, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and organizations like CASA-Trinity and Catholic Charities.
