A man who opened fire during a July shooting in Auburn, New York, has pleaded guilty to murder and illegal firearm possession, officials announced.
Davon Dixon, 35, of Brooklyn, entered the plea in Cayuga County Court on October 1. Prosecutors say he intentionally caused the death of a victim by firing multiple shots from a loaded firearm during a July 26 incident in the city. He also admitted to unlawfully possessing the weapon.
The charges include one count of second-degree murder, a class A-I felony, and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C armed violent felony. The case was handled by District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci and Special Counsel Mark Moody.
Dixon faces an aggregate prison sentence of 20 years to life. The weapons charge carries 15 years plus five years of post-release supervision, to be served concurrently with the sentence for the murder conviction. Sentencing is scheduled for January 15, 2026.
Dixon has been held without bail at the Cayuga County Jail since July.
The fatal shooting occurred in the City of Auburn and involved a loaded firearm, which Dixon reportedly used to fire multiple rounds. Authorities recovered the weapon and arrested Dixon soon after the incident.
According to court records, Dixon’s plea marks the conclusion of a case that has drawn local attention for its violence and swiftness in legal resolution. He remains in custody.
