NYSEG and RG&E plan grid upgrades, seek public input

A proposal to modernize New York’s electric grid is moving forward — and now customers can weigh in.

The New York State Public Service Commission will hold public hearings in the coming weeks as part of the review process for the “Powering New York” plan submitted by NYSEG and RG&E earlier this year.

The plan outlines major infrastructure investments to improve electric capacity, meet energy goals, and create more than 1,100 jobs in upstate New York.

“These hearings allow the public to have a voice in the rate review process,” said Patricia Nilsen, CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “Their input, along with expert analysis, helps ensure transparency and fairness.”

The utilities say the plan reflects community feedback and includes a multi-year rate structure designed to provide billing stability and support long-term grid improvements.

Customers won’t see any changes to delivery rates unless the Public Service Commission approves the proposal.

More information about the hearings is available on the Department of Public Service website. Virtual interviews and additional details are available by request through NYSEG’s communications office.
