Auburn man faces several charges, including felonies, after fleeing domestic and police

A man was arrested in Auburn earlier this week after allegedly attacking a woman in violation of a court order during a domestic dispute.

Police responded to Cayuga Street around 8:50 a.m. on September 24 for a report of a physical domestic incident. Officers arrived to find a woman with an injured hand and damage to her vehicle. A young child was also present.

Suspect fled before arrest, child was in vehicle

The victim told officers that the suspect — identified as Michael F. Abdelhandy — showed up to collect belongings but instead attacked her. Witnesses confirmed the account, saying Abdelhandy struck both the woman and her vehicle. The child was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Officers later confirmed there was a full stay-away order of protection in place meant to keep Abdelhandy away from the victim.

Abdelhandy fled the scene before officers arrived, but police found him a short time later and arrested him. He was also processed on an unrelated bench warrant out of Auburn City Court.

Facing multiple charges

Abdelhandy now faces several charges:

  • Aggravated family offense (E felony)
  • Criminal contempt 1st (E felony)
  • Criminal mischief (A misdemeanor)
  • Endangering the welfare of a child (A misdemeanor)
  • Harassment 2nd (violation)

He was arraigned in Auburn City Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail.
