As it seeks major rate hikes, NYSEG also wants to shut down its Auburn walk-in office, according to The Citizen.
The company cites low foot traffic — just 1,862 visits in 2024 — as the reason for closing offices in Auburn, Ithaca, and Oneonta. NYSEG says most customers now pay bills online or by phone. The proposed closures come alongside a plan to raise electric bills by 23.7% and gas by 33.5%.
A public hearing is set for Sept. 30 at Cayuga Community College.
