A group of 16 high-growth startups from around the world is heading to Buffalo next month, all vying for a share of $5 million through the 43North startup competition.
The finalists — selected from nearly 1,000 applicants — will pitch live on October 16 at Shea’s Performing Arts Center. Five winners will each receive a $1 million investment, along with mentorship, office space, and support to grow their businesses in Buffalo.
This year’s contenders span industries like AI, cleantech, foodtech, digital health, and fintech. The group includes startups from London, San Francisco, New York City, and Miami — and even one company based in Buffalo.
Since launching in 2014, 43North has invested in 74 startups, created more than 3,000 jobs, and helped companies raise over $1 billion in capital. The program, backed by New York State and Empire State Development, is designed to attract innovative companies and support their growth in Western New York.
Tickets for the October 16 event are free but limited. Audience members will also help decide the winner of a $25,000 People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
