A small village suddenly found itself running a century-old water system after a college walked away, according to The Citizen. Aurora officially took ownership of the former Wells College water plant this week.
Leaders say Wells College stopped operating the facility in September 2024, forcing the village to step in. Since then, Aurora has spent about $350,000 on repairs and boosted its water budget by 177%.
Now that Aurora owns the plant, officials plan upgrades and possible expansion. State grants and more than $1 million in federal funding could help support future improvements.
