The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is joining departments across New York in celebrating Sheriffs’ Week — a time to recognize the essential work local sheriff’s offices do to keep communities safe.
Sheriffs’ Week shines a spotlight on the wide range of duties carried out by sheriffs and their teams, from patrol and corrections to public education and community outreach. It also serves as a reminder that sheriffs are the only elected law enforcement officials in the state, making them directly accountable to voters.
“Sheriffs’ Week is a chance to thank the men and women of this office for their commitment to public safety,” said Seneca County Sheriff Timothy J. Thompson Jr. “Our members work tirelessly to serve this community and I am extremely proud of them.”
Thompson also thanked the Seneca County Board of Supervisors for formally recognizing the week and supporting the department’s efforts.
The Sheriff’s Office regularly partners with schools, businesses, and local groups on a variety of programs, including STOP-DWI enforcement, school safety initiatives, and crime prevention education.
As the weeklong recognition continues across New York, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is extending its appreciation to local residents for their ongoing support and trust.
