Robot scouts grape diseases as well as humans

A robot rolling through vineyards can now spot grape diseases as accurately as trained human scouts, according to the Cornell Chronicle. The autonomous “PhytoPatholoBot” uses AI and GPS to scan grapevines in real time, identifying threats like powdery mildew with minimal labor.

Cornell scientists say it’s a game-changer for growers battling climate-fueled pathogens and shrinking workforces. Instead of hiring teams, one person can oversee the robot as it maps infections and suggests targeted treatments.

A Cornell-led startup plans to commercialize the tech, which could also help protect crops like apples in the future.
