Pete Alonso broke the Mets’ eight-game skid Sunday with one swing. His three-run homer in the 10th inning lifted New York to a 5-2 win over the Texas Rangers at Citi Field, ending the club’s longest losing streak since 2017.
With Francisco Lindor on second to open the 10th, Texas opted to intentionally walk Juan Soto. Alonso followed by launching a drive over the right-field wall, sealing the Mets’ first win since September 5.
Earlier, rookie right-hander Nolan McLean turned in six scoreless innings, scattering five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks to lower his ERA to 1.19.
New York built a 2-0 lead on Soto’s RBI groundout in the fifth and Brandon Nimmo’s solo homer in the sixth, his first since August 29. Texas tied it in the seventh when Joc Pederson’s single plated two runs off Reed Garrett.
Edwin Díaz wriggled out of a jam in the ninth, snaring a line drive that Lindor turned into a double play to erase the go-ahead run at third.
