Anthony G. Bellamy named new deputy chief of Ithaca Police Department

The Ithaca Police Department has announced the appointment of Anthony G. Bellamy as its next deputy chief, set to officially begin the role on October 2, 2025.

Bellamy brings more than 21 years of law enforcement experience, most recently serving as Chief of the Cornell University Police Department (CUPD). Throughout his career at CUPD, he held nearly every major role—including patrol officer, investigator, sergeant, lieutenant, and deputy chief—before assuming the top position in 2022.

According to IPD officials, Bellamy’s focus on officer development, wellness, and community engagement aligns closely with the department’s goals of providing service with honor, integrity, and professionalism.

He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Marist College, a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice Systems from Keuka College, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (Session 287).

The selection followed a comprehensive statewide search, with candidates interviewed by a panel that included representatives from the Ithaca Police Department, Greater Ithaca Activity Center (GIAC), Community Justice Center (CJC), and the City’s Human Resources Department.

IPD said it’s confident Bellamy’s experience and leadership will guide the department toward continued growth and stronger community safety.
