Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver will miss Sunday’s game against the New York Jets with a left ankle injury, and his absence could extend beyond this week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Oliver, who played the best game of his young career in Buffalo’s season-opening win over the Baltimore Ravens, was stepped on during practice on Wednesday and has been in a walking boot.
The Bills are entering a crucial stretch with two AFC East games in six days, including a Thursday night matchup with the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Sean McDermott said Oliver’s status for that game remains uncertain, but he did not rule him out.
With Oliver sidelined, the Bills’ interior defense will lean on younger linemen, including rookie T.J. Sanders, to slow a Jets rushing attack that posted 182 yards in its opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Buffalo’s defense is already thin, with cornerback Tre’Davious White, nickel back Taron Johnson, rookie safety Jordan Hancock, and linebacker Shaq Thompson all listed as questionable.
