Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is praising a new move to strengthen the U.S.-Canada border in the fight against human trafficking and drug smuggling.
On Monday, Stefanik applauded Attorney General Pam Bondi’s announcement to expand Joint Task Force Alpha—a federal initiative originally focused on the southern border—to now include enforcement efforts along the northern U.S. border as well.
“Thank you Attorney General Pam Bondi for expanding Joint Task Force Alpha to cover our Northern Border,” said Stefanik. “For many years, I have been working with President Trump to lead the fight to secure the Northern Border by delivering more manpower, technology, and funding.”
Stefanik said the expansion builds on years of efforts to address security challenges at the northern border, where smuggling routes have increasingly drawn federal attention.
Background on the task force
Joint Task Force Alpha was launched in 2021 to crack down on human smuggling operations at the southern border. It expanded into Central America in 2024, and now, with support from the Trump administration, it will cover the U.S.-Canada border as well.
Stefanik has backed several related measures, including the Northern Border Security and Staffing Reform Act, the DHS Appropriations Act, and the Border Airport Enhancement Act, which designated Plattsburgh as a Port of Entry.
While criticizing New York Governor Kathy Hochul and what she called “Far Left Democrats,” Stefanik said she remains committed to what she described as President Trump’s “successful border security policies.”
