Route 54A in Pultney closed for wall project

Drivers in Steuben County will need to find a new way around starting Monday morning, as a section of State Route 54A in the Town of Pultney shuts down for construction.

The New York State Department of Transportation says the road will be closed between County Route 74 and County Route 32 beginning at 6:30 a.m. on September 8. Crews will be replacing a retaining wall, and the work is expected to last through the end of the month.

A signed detour will guide drivers along Emergency Route “B,” which includes County Routes 74, 78, 33, and 32. Transportation officials are urging drivers to expect delays and consider alternate routes if possible.

The DOT reminds drivers to slow down in work zones—speeding fines are doubled, and repeat offenses can lead to license suspension.

Work schedules are weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.
