A Springport man has been arrested and charged with two felony sex crimes following a week-long investigation into alleged abuse of a child under the age of 11.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says 63-year-old Craig S. Gilmore was taken into custody at his home on August 29 and charged with Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the 1st Degree and Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to Gilmore’s residence after collecting evidence that established probable cause for the arrest.
According to WSYR-TV, Gilmore was employed at Union Springs Academy at the time of his arrest.
He was arraigned the following morning at CAP Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail with no bail.
The case remains under investigation. Authorities say only limited details will be released at this time.
