A Moravia man is facing a felony charge after allegedly failing to update his address as required by New York’s sex offender registration laws.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52-year-old John F. McNamara on Friday, September 12, following an investigation that found he was no longer living at his registered address in the Village of Moravia.
According to Sheriff Brian Schenck, deputies discovered that McNamara had moved to the City of Auburn without notifying authorities — a violation of state Correction Law 168-F sub-4, which requires registered sex offenders to report any change of address or status within 10 days.
McNamara was charged with failure to report a change of address, a class E felony. He was processed at the Public Safety Building and later remanded to the Cayuga County Jail following arraignment at CAP Court.
McNamara is scheduled to appear in Sennett Town Court on Wednesday, September 18 at noon.
