The New York Yankees finally snapped their eight-game skid against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night, riding a four-homer outburst to a 7-2 win that avoided a four-game sweep at Yankee Stadium.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a pair of two-run homers, including his 100th career blast, while Trent Grisham added two solo shots of his own as New York’s bats came alive. Grisham, who reached base in all four plate appearances, now has 25 homers on the season, second on the team behind Aaron Judge.Â
Carlos Rodón worked 5.2 innings of one-hit ball but struggled with command, walking five and exiting after loading the bases in the sixth. Reliever Luke Weaver allowed a bloop two-run single before shutting the door on further damage, and the Yankees’ bullpen of Weaver, Devin Williams and Camilo Doval combined for 3.1 scoreless innings to finish it off.
Giancarlo Stanton chipped in with a single and a 117.8 mph double before scoring on a José Caballero sacrifice fly.
The victory pulled New York (70-60) within a half-game of Boston (71-60) for the top American League wild-card spot.
