The severe thunderstorms that battered Canandaigua, Honeoye, Palmyra, Clifton Springs, Newark, Clyde, Sodus, Cato, Fair Haven and other locations in Ontario, Wayne and Cayuga Counties have moved through the region headed to the northeast.
While the weather radar has cleared up for most of the Finger Lakes region as of 4:01 PM, conditions for severe weather will persist into the overnight. Small cells that can become dangerous are still popping up in the central and southern Finger Lakes.

Several clusters of showers and thunderstorms will produce heavydownpours through the evening from portions of the Southern Tier into the Finger Lakes and northward to the Syracuse area. Ponding of water on roadways and urban flooding may occur where the heaviest rain falls. Allow extra time to reach your destination, turn around don`t drown.

A slow moving cold front will cross central New York today and will generate showers and thunderstorms. A few of these storms may become strong to severe with isolate damaging winds and large hail the main threats. Additionally, localized heavy rainfall could lead to ponding of water in poor drainage areas.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Eastern Wayne County, Cayuga County, Southwestern Oswego County until 4:00 PM.
- At 2:55 PM, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Chimney Bluffs State Park to near Clyde to 6 miles southeast of Lyons, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
- Locations impacted include Oswego, Fair Haven Beach State Park, Lyons, Clyde, Sodus, Weedsport, Cato, and Chimney Bluffs State Park.
- This includes Interstate 90 near exit 40.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

After strong storms ripped through a northeastern path including Canandaigua and Clifton Springs they appear to be weakening as they head towards Newark, Sodus and North Rose.
ALERT: Strong storm cell is forming over Richmond and heading towards Canandaigua as of 2:41 PM.
So far this afternoon the storms have moved through just north of Geneva, Seneca Falls, Auburn and Weedsport. Strong storms are still forming along the front line. Even if you are not in the warning area residents in these areas should remain alert over the next few hours as the front is slowly sliding east.

Strong Storms are moving through Clifton Springs, Marion, Newark, Lyons, Soduc, North Rose, Clyde and Wolcott. Winds up to 60 mph and large hail possible in the warning area seen below.

SEVERE STORMS MOVING THROUGH WAYNE, NORTHERN ONTATIO COUNTIES
- The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for Wayne County, east-central Monroe County, northeastern Ontario County until 3:00 PM
- Locations impacted include Canandaigua, Webster, Fairport, Ontario, Newark, Williamson, Marion, Lyons, Palmyra, and Victor.
This includes Interstate 90 between exits 43 and 44.

A TORNADO WARNING has been issued for Cato, Meridian and parts of NW Cayuga County through 2:08 PM. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING is also active until 2:45 PM.
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for Fulton, Cato, Phoenix, Ira, Conquest, Red Creek, Meridian, Sand Ridge, South Hannibal, and Pennellville through 2:45 PM.
At 1:54 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located near Cato, or 11 miles south of Fair Haven Beach State Park, moving northeast at 30 mph. 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

- At 1:58 PM, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Webster to near Penfield to Bloomfield, moving northeast at 40 mph. HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

An updated tornado warning was released by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 1:36 p.m. in effect until 2 p.m. for Wayne County.
Locations impacted by the warning include Clyde, Rose, Huron, Wolcott, Red Creek, South Butler and North Rose.
Northwestern Cayuga Country should stay aware as the storm path is headed towards Victory and Red Creek areas.
Half-dollar-sized hail (1.25 inches) is expected with the incoming storm.
At 1:36 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Clyde, or 15 miles southwest of Fair Haven Beach State Park, moving northeast at 25 mph,” says the weather service. “Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.
Seek Shelter Immediately if in warning area
Take cover now! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
