Elder abuse task force bill heads to Hochul

A bill to create a permanent task force to combat elder abuse in New York is awaiting Gov. Kathy Hochul’s signature, and its sponsor expects approval, according to Spectrum News NY1.

The bill, backed by Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, passed both houses unanimously and would bring together state agencies to protect older adults. With New York’s senior population growing fast, supporters say action is urgent.

The task force aims to improve education, intervention, and coordination—at little cost—while addressing rising scams and caretaker abuse.
