With hundreds in attendance and shovels in the ground, the Yates Community Center officially launched its long-awaited expansion project on August 5 — a milestone more than a decade in the making.
The 35,000-square-foot facility will dramatically grow the Center’s ability to serve Yates County residents of all ages. Local and state leaders, business owners, school officials, and community members gathered in Penn Yan to celebrate the project’s kickoff.
“This is more than a building — it’s a symbol of what we can achieve together,” said Executive Director Charles L. Bollinger III. “We’re building a space where all generations can thrive.”
Board President Dr. Suzamie Farnsworth echoed the sentiment, thanking the community for its years of support.
What’s coming to the new center
The expanded Community Center will include:
- An indoor walking and running track
- Multipurpose courts for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball
- STEM programming for youth and teens
- Dedicated space for Special Olympics training
- Meeting rooms for small businesses and local organizations
- Fitness classes, recreational programs, and year-round events
The center will remain affordable, inclusive, and open to all, with a focus on wellness and connection.
Powered by local support
The project is being funded by the “Raise the Roof” campaign — a grassroots initiative fueled by donations and volunteer efforts across Yates County. Construction will begin soon, with many local contractors involved to support the regional economy.
