Montezuma man charged with DWI after crossing center line on Route 31

A Montezuma man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he was caught driving with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says 51-year-old Timothy J. Leary was arrested on August 17 after a deputy spotted his vehicle repeatedly crossing the center line on Route 31 just before 2 p.m.

During the traffic stop, the deputy noticed open containers of alcohol in the vehicle and determined that Leary was intoxicated. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office, where he registered a BAC of 0.23%.

Leary was charged with DWI (first offense), aggravated DWI, and several vehicle and traffic violations. He was issued tickets and is scheduled to appear in Montezuma Town Court on August 20 at 7:00 p.m.
