Gov. Kathy Hochul met with top Democrats to strategize a redistricting overhaul by 2028, according to Spectrum News 1.
The group wants to fix the state’s deadlocked Independent Redistricting Commission and pass a constitutional amendment that would allow New York to redraw maps mid-decade — a direct response to Republican efforts in Texas. But any changes must pass two legislative cycles and a statewide vote in 2027.
Hochul says she’s confident voters will support it, though leaders admit turnout in an off-year could be a challenge.
