Labor Day rally to spotlight workers’ rights in Geneva

Drivers passing the Geneva lakefront on Labor Day might want to keep an eye out — and an ear open — for a show of support for working people.

Local groups are organizing a “Workers over Billionaires” rally on Monday, September 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. outside the FLX Welcome Center on Routes 5&20. The peaceful protest is being led by the Geneva Democratic Committee and Indivisible Seneca to call attention to labor rights and worker protections.

Organizer said the rally is about honoring Labor Day’s true meaning — recognizing the contributions of American workers — while pushing back against what he describes as federal rollbacks on worker protections.

Participants will line the road with handmade signs, and passing motorists are encouraged to honk in support. Parking is available at the eastern end of the FLX Welcome Center lot or nearby grassy areas.

A second rally is also planned in Seneca Falls from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. outside the National Women’s Rights Historical Park on Fall Street.
